Conceived as a new icon for London, 70 St Mary Axe has a distinctive, elegantly curved shape, making it instantly recognisable. Curved glass and anodised aluminium fins wrap over the top of the structure and sweep down to the building’s base.
The riser doors were fitted with the never-before-used MT riser restrictor system, designed in conjunction with our specialist access-door partner.
Integra was appointed to supply and deliver the shell and core drywall partitions, risers and wall linings from the basement right up to the top floor on level 21.
During the design period, Integra emerged as the ideal contractor to control the interfaces of the riser cupboard doors and the feature reception ceiling. We installed the riser doors early in the programme, eliminating the need for temporary doors – thus saving the main contractor both time and money. We also fitted the doors with the never-before-used MT riser restrictor system, which was developed by our team in conjunction with our specialist access-door partner.
The reception ceiling was a triumph. We took free-issue concrete beams and designed a support system capable of taking the load, combined with aluminium infill units. We have shortlisted the end result for entry in our annual awards competition.
We are delighted to have received fantastic plaudits from the client, main contractor and the architect – and are proud of what we achieved for this project.
